adding and subtracting fractions


1.       Miriam and Izabella shared a candy bar. Miriam ate 8/12 and Izabella ate ¼ of the candy bar. What fraction of the candy bar did Miriam and Izabella eat altogether?








2.       Ms. Gordillo collected graph paper from her students at the beginning of the year. The first month she used 1/8 of the paper. On the second month she used ¼ of the paper and on the third month she used ½. What fraction of the graph paper that was collected was used in these three months?








3.       Michelle baked a pan of brownies. Aileen ate 2/12 and Marely ate ½ of the pan. Draw a model to represent how much of the pan of brownies they ate?

5. Mercedes needs a total of 15 yards of yarn for a project. she needs 2 5/8 yards of yellow yarn and 4 3/4 yards of red yarn. The rest of the yarn needs to be orange. How much orange yarn does Mercedes need?
